Fire Wallet rationale

Can someone give me a logical rationale for using a fire wallet other than the usual corny line about "my credit card being hot" or whatever? I think they're cool but can't think of a good reason to use one. "Oh my gosh my money burned up!" Really?? Just don't get it. I know I'm missing something.

Here's my routine. When a pretty girl or anyone really asks me how I do my magic. I tell them I met some weird guy that told me he would give me special powers if I signed a paper selling him my soul. I told him ok, sure. And he gave me these supernatural powers. I can't pronounce his name but I still have his business card in my wallet..let me get it. WOOOSHHH!!!(break out the fire) Then they freak out. ( It's supposed to be beezlebub's card, get it)? Perfect story with a surprise pay off.

What does a wallet carry? Money of course. There are so many different tricks to present with money or use the wallet to carry some packet tricks. Look at the wallet as a way to present other tricks. Don't set it off right away. Do it when you're putting your props away. Then apologize stating that you're on your way to a fire sale or you have money to burn. Another idea is to hand out your business card, flame first. Then tell them that your show is one of the hottest in the area. Come on guys use your creativity.

Great question and I hope that more people answer it. It sure looks cool and I'd like to purchase it. But I'm not sure it fits my personal "magic trick rule," which is don't buy something unless you have a pretty good idea of where it might fit in to your act.

I've been brainstorming various card-to-wallet effects. Something where the folded card disappears in a wad of flash paper, only to reappear in the flaming wallet. But I haven't come up with anything workable yet.

What I love about this effect is that you don't really need to "present" it or use any patter about the wallet. You can pull it out, burst into flames, and move on. People will be FRIED (figuratively, hopefully!)

I am thinking about buying one and I think after I do a couple triks I can just pull out the wallet and say something like "hey check out my new wallet. I just got it a couple weeks ago and I really like it, but I heard that these wallets have been recalled because of some kind of defect where they randomly burst into flames. But that's ridiculous right? I mean there is no way that a wallet could just randomly burst into... (light it) WOAH!"

Performing a card to wallet routine, I would say "Did you see me go? I was moving so fast I may have caused some friction."

Cue to reveal flames.

Because it's fun and it gets peoples attention. A fire wallet won't fit into everyone's style though. I've used it as an opener for strolling. Walk up to a group and ask - "Hey, did anyone drop a wallet? (open it up) WOW! this thing is HOT (stolen) I better just hold onto it!" Works for me and my style.

Well, against my better judgment I bought the fire wallet. It functions perfectly but I still have the same issue I had before. Audience's are briefly surprised but there's no "magic" involved. "Oh...look...a trick wallet with fire". It's a cute effect that doesn't go anywhere and you have to constantly fuel it while strolling. I know this is going to end up in a drawer. AND it's SO bulky. Ugh. Next.

I guess my problem is I come from the Tommy Wonder school of magic: If there is no logical reason for a "move" in your routine...get rid of it or substitute. Opening a strolling performance with a fire wallet (with no logical purpose) is like lighting a wad of flash paper. Sure, it startles people but there's no flow into a routine. I just feel like a fire wallet is a gimmick you use when you can't draw people into your magic naturally.
