Yes, the pen is examinable. You will have to make a "sneaky move" during your performance, but it's really easy to do. The audience will find nothing. Also the pen, or at least part of the pen, writes and you can use it just like you would with an ordinary one.

Hi there! GREAT QUESTION! This trick is designed so that throughout the routines you CAN hand it out for examinable. Theres a little bit of "dirt" at some points but its super deceptive and the end product IS examinable. This is one of my personal favorites!
