Discover the Five Points- and the Secrets of Using Them

Long out of print and widely sought after, The Five Points in Magic is Juan Tamariz's highly regarded study of the physical and psychological secrets that use the body to fool the mind. He shows in detail how each of these five possessions-

  • THE EYES
  • THE VOICE
  • THE HANDS
  • THE FEET
  • THE BODY

can be marshaled to create entertaining and seemingly impossible happenings.

In The Five Points in Magic, Juan Tamariz teaches magicians that it is not the hands alone that deceive, but also the feet, the body, the eyes and the voice. It is only through a full understanding of all five of these tools of nature and communication that the conjurer can spin a complete web of illusion that traps and then transports his audiences into the astonishing realm he has prepared for them.

These five tools are essential and invaluable to the stage conjurer and the close-up magician alike, and they are clearly analyzed and taught by Tamariz from his vantage point of years of successful professional performance in both venues. Tamariz enhances the clarity of his ideas and explanations with solid examples drawn from his own repertoire. As the reader learns seminal principles, he also learns these professional effects and techniques-

  • The Appearing Card on Handkerchief
  • Crossing the Gaz
  • Double Crossing the Gaze
  • The Ribbonspread Force
  • Al's Topper (a book test)
  • Protean Poker
  • Upper Cut (a Tamarisian study of Larry Jennings's 'Coin Cut')

There is no other book that so quickly, efficiently and entertainingly puts into the reader's hands the tools required to raise his performances to a level of true professionalism and draw his audiences into the world of magic.

The text and design of this new edition have been revised to provide added clarity for readers of this valuable modern classic of magic.

Card magician on the planet. He can be seen at the odd convention but the next best thing is reading his books and watching his DVD's. There is some fantastic material on presentation in this book and once you read it you are more than likely going to change some of your presentation style. You will learn from a real master. I saw him perform for the masses with nothing more than a deck of cards and had the crowd eating out of his hand. He is amazing and has a lot of advice to share. Buy and enjoy. This you will read over and over again.

Seriously in all honesty this is amazing! It is a master lesson in misdirection. It doesn't just teach you methods of directing peoples attention, it tells you why people react like they do and when to use specific techniques ect. I don't think the could go into much more detail, you would NEVER think that your feet position helps in misdirection until buy this book! Another must have in your library!

Tamariz is an incredible magician, and like Darwin Ortiz, is a great thinker about magic, well beyond the techniques (i.e. sleights) that occupy so many of us. This a must-have book.

I had high expectations with this book and I was disappointed a little bit. The style is approachable, fun and easy to read but aside from a couple of general or non-relevant remarks there is not really much there to learn from. The concepts surrounding presented tricks are pretty valid and interesting, yet I deem presented tricks as dated and not interesting in modern times. If you have a chance you should give this book a look, it is pretty short and you will finish it in a couple hours, yet I would say there are better positions out there to learn magic showmanship.

One of The Most Important Book on Theory of Magic ever Published Report this review

I cannot disagree more with one of the published opinions.

The 5 Magic Points is a work of study that takes years and years to assimilate.

One thing is to read it in a couple of hours and another to internalize its content.

You have to read it in minute detail, there are real subtleties even in the drawings and gags.

When the book was published, the magical world had little or no reference to the aspects covered in it.

In fact today you can still count on the fingers of two hands, works of this nature that deserve our time and study (E. Burger, T. Wonder, Ascanio, D. Ortiz, Larry Hass, K. Weber ... and few more).

If you focus on games, you have not understood the meaning of the work.

Luckily you have a copy, now that it is already sold out.

I assure you that one day you will change your mind ;)

Some do not like the book and have already posted their comments about their feelings. It may be because this is not a book about tricks but about magic. It spells out small points that I for one have not paid attention to..but keeping them in mind now has been a bit of a game changer for me. I think that those of us, who have come to realize that you don't have to knock yourself out with knuckle busters to knock your audience out, will appreciate the book more. Good, not earth shattering & a little overpriced. Report this review

It's a book everyone should read however, if you have spent some time treading the boards as an actor then the theory will seem very simple. But that being said there are excellent examples and exercises (or if you will) tricks to practice. A little over priced for what it is but then again magic books are a niche market so one can't fault one for making a buck.
