This is the kind of outside-the-box thinking that made the "Other Brothers" so popular with pros.

Using the popular and hilarious mad-libs style fill-in-the-blanks story, you're able to make a series of predictions, with 100% accuracy of what your spectator is going to write in the blanks.

It's not one prediction, it's more like 5 or 6 in a row.

Darryl and Daryl, what can I say?

Every time I review your tricks, it's the same thing over again... "you guys are great... the trick is so simple... blah blah blah!"

Curse you two... Foiled again!

Once again, the Other Brothers have made magic simple, accessible, doable, and still somehow mind-blowing. I love these guys.

The trick fooled me when I watched the trailer. And then I watched the full performance.

Still fooled.

Then I saw the explanation.

My head still hurts from all the "D'OH!" slaps I proceeded to punish myself with for letting the Other Brothers do this to me yet ONE. MORE. TIME.

Guys. This is a great trick. When you watch the explanation, you're gonna at first be angry that: a.) it's so simple and, b.) you didn't think of it. Regardless of the brain trauma, you'll b pleased with this valuable reminder and lesson that some of the best tricks in mentalism (and in magic in general) have very simple solutions.

Ok, now that I've praised the trick, let's get to the meat and _______ and answer some of your questions:

1. Is this something you'll perform? Yes. No doubt. You will blow minds with basically zero effort.

2. Is it a fooler? Yes. And no. It depends on how well you manage your volunteer.

3. Is it worth the money? Yes. Normally, I would say that this is a $4.95 trick because it's so simple... but the return on this investment is fantastic, so I don't feel that $14.95 is unreasonable.

4. Is it for beginner mentalists? Yes. Absolutely. This is a foundation stone teaching the beginner how mentalists think outside the box.

5. What about intermediate and advanced mentalists? If you can't figure it out by watching the demo, then yes get it. I can't guarantee though that you won't slap yourself in the forehead or bang your head against a wall.

6. Are there any special moves? Not really. Not anything anyone can't handle. There is a single, simple move. It's actually not truly a "move" but I suppose it's more about finger placement.

7. What audiences is this appropriate for? I would say parlor and larger. Busking can work too if you have a nice size crowd. The point is that this would not be a trick you do for family and friends or small intimate groups where people know each other and are likely to talk after the trick.

I give the Other Brothers and this trick 4 __squirrels__. Er, stars. (I generally save 5 stars for extremely visual mind-melting type of magic... four stars is usually a "perfect" score for me to give to card and mentalism tricks and cool tricks that aren't visual.) Excellent job, Darryls!

(By the way, I always try to be honest and straightforward in my reviews, while being respectful to the magician. If you appreciate my reviews, can you please click the "Yes" button below beside the question, "Did this review help you?" It's not like I actually benefit in any way by your clicking it... but it would be nice to see if my reviews are helpful or not. I hope they are. If you ever have suggestions or comments or questions about my reviews, please feel free to leave me a constructive comment. I'm just trying to be helpful. I love the Penguin community and hope that I can someday contribute my own product. :-) Thanks for reading and for any (hopefully positive, but either way, at least kind) feedback!)

Great simple stage routine Report this review

This is clever, and for a lay audience would play better than in the example, were it looks like a lecture.
As we know lectures are pretty flat on reaction, as everyone is guessing and second guessing methods, so a regular lay audience would love this :))

1st off let me say this, these are 2 very nice very appreciative guys and I'm sure they are far better magicians or mentalist than I am. As a matter of fact I'm really neither of the above I'm a hypnotist who does mentalism to get my show warmed up. I hate to say this because the guys really are so nice but I just don't get this trick. 1st of all I just don't think the mad libs are funny. the group that I did it for never laughed once, some looked at me like that's it and then when he went back to sit down he quickly discovered that I wasn't predicting the things he was writing down. So maybe it's because I'm 58 years old and I just don't get this kind of comedy but I do remember mad libs when I was younger and they were very funny. I'm sorry guys I'm really trying to like their stuff but we're just not making a connection they have a good rating from a lot of other people so a maybe it's just me but I just didn't see it as anything that I'll ever use. buy it try it maybe it's just me it's not a terribly expensive so now it's the price of a bad movie and popcorn so give it a shot.
By the way Darryl and Darrel if you're reading this I did watch it to the end and the explanation where you said it was probably given a low star because they didn't watch the whole thing. I did watch the explanation I did watch it all. you guys are great I just dont get this one. I'm going to Try contra

I added this to my kids act, with a mom helping me out. This plays wonderfully and is simple to do()just my speed). That way it is all about presentation.

Cons: The method is pretty easy to figure out, doesn't really have that "wow" factor to it

Pros: Pretty much impromptu

Overall, I think it's worth it to get it if you are just looking for a fun party trick you can do practically impromptu if you have the right stuff memorized. This will require great showmanship.

Not for me Report this review

I absolutely hate writing reviews that aren’t great supportive reviews. Especially hen they’re about creators who very much enjoy performing their other products. I definitely don’t like being one of the few people here to write this type of review. Judging by all of the other positive ones, it’s onviously something that others feel that are for them. Unfortunately I feel like spectators today will see right through this. To me and my spouse, this is very transparent and obvious. On the other hand, it can be made fun and can be formatted to fit your style of presentation. While this has recieved plenty of good reviews, this is not for me. And I cannot see myself performing this with the type of people I perform for. Sorry, I wish I could have given this 5 stars. The other brothers have a lot to offer the magic community. So don’t let my poor review stop you from purchasing this. It’s just not my cup of tea

Pretty Good Report this review

This is a bare bones routine which is presented in a sloppy manner. The concept certainly isn’t new, but with a little thought you could easily make a much better one.

I wouldn’t recommend exposing the other “simple shapes” at the end, and instead perhaps double side one of the picture shapes essentially providing two outs.

I like the premise, but upon watching the performance it was immediately apparent how the prediction was done. Especially as Daryl awkwardly attempted to hide his predictions from the person who assisted him.

Thank goodness it was a free download.

This may fool a few people in your audience, but when there enough tricks that can blow your whole crowd away, why choose something this weak?

I’m torn on this one. The method is reasonably clever, and is strengthened considerably by the first phase (added later, as described in the tutorial). However, while I can imagine situations where this routine fools everyone, I can just as easily imagine situations where the method dawns on any number of audience members. And if your audience members know each other and are likely to discuss the routine afterwards (since I perform primarily corporate banquet dinners, this is practically guaranteed) there is a good chance the illusion will be deduced. Perhaps if there were a way to include one more method to the routine, the illusion would be sufficiently opaque. In the tutorial, The Other Brothers invite development to this routine; perhaps they also detect this potential weakness?

The routine is well taught. The Other Brothers cover many details to make it as foolproof as possible. At the end, though, I’m not sure it’s as fooling as they claim.
