Tommy Wonder was an incredible performer, well-known for his smooth sleight-of-hand, masterful misdirection, and devious devices. And now, a modern master of magical creativity shares his favorite Tommy Wonder creations with you as Dan Harlan presents "The Best of the Books of Wonder." The last lesson is a real show stopper. Join Dan Harlan in learning Tommy Wonder’s Rubik’s Card.

The final lesson features what appears to be an antique game of some sorts… a box filled with blocks that have various card pips on each of their sides. It’s demonstrated that the blocks can be arranged to form a picture of any card. Then, the box is closed and set aside with the blocks in a random order. A card is chosen, and… when the box is opened… the blocks have re-arranged themselves to match the card! In this new version of the trick, everything can be examined as there is no gimmick involved!

Rubik’s Card includes detailed building instructions with Dan Harlan so that you can easily construct the necessary gimmicks right from home. This takes the brilliance of Tommy Wonder’s construction and puts it within your grasp. Subscribe to the entire series today and elevate your magic with the best of The Books of Wonder.

Initially I was Slightly disappointed but then I saw an alternate handling with a great kicker ending and I loved it.

Overall it’s a fun trick. A lot of arts n crafts for something I probably won’t do often, but it will make a nice art piece for the house or office.

The assembly will probably take several hours and a sander and staining in order to get it to look old.

The trick itself won’t require much practice to master.

So overall if you enjoy arts and crafts, especially woodwork, then this is a great trick to make and learn.

Nice offbeat effect Report this review

The effect is interesting, but not spectacular, and certainly not worth a separate download at this price.

The original Tommy Wonder approach was different (not appropriate to provide more details), and therein lies a reason to have a separate lesson. This download does not do more than touch on Tommy's method, instead focusing on Dan's revision.

I gave it 4 rather than 3 stars, as Dan is always a great teacher, with good pointers. His method does require arts & crafts (although less than Tommy's), and he does a good job of explaining those.

Also, Dan provides the relevant artwork, which itself also helps justify the 4 star rating.
