Canvas (Euros) bill switch: Old or New Euros?

Hello,
Could anyone tell me if the canvas (Euro) trick work with the old Euros or the new ones ?
You can see the difference in design here:

Also, I understand the trick can work with several denominations. Is there a gimmick per denomination or is it the same for all kind of banknotes?
