Does the Fiber Optics Extended by Richard Sanders Hyper Ring routine need a gimmicked ring?

The Fiber Optics Extended by Richard Sanders DVD has a routine which he calls Hyper Ring. I was wondering if that ring needed to be gimmicked in some way or if I could use a regular 4" ring from a linking rings set. Thanks!!

The ring is ungimmicked. I use a woman's bracelet.
