If the magi can leave the room while the spec places his paper in an envelope, isn't there a possible that the spec can also examine the other envelopes he is holding before the magi returns?

Needless to say, I'm assuming something here that may not be relevant.

If the spectator is allowed to examine the stack of envelopes odds are they will find out the secret. They can handle the envelopes without an issue, and in theory, the magician could leave but they probably shouldn't.

The magician should stick around to coach the spectator through handling the envelope.
