I love Dani and have a lot of his videos, but I would not have bought this one if the demo showed
the whole routine. The 1st spectator does not just cut the cards and put against his chest, as the
demo and description lead you to believe. Once the first spectator cuts he is instructed to deal as
many cards as he likes, and then put the rest on top. It’s misleading that this was left out
because most magicians would know this method. In the bonus trick there is one point where the
camera cuts away, and focuses on the spectators face. This is the moment when the dirty work
happens. Again I think it was intentionally cut this way to hide the fact there was a “move”.
There are a couple ideas of value in the video which is why I still gave it 3 stars. But puts a bad
taste in my mouth the way penguin promoted it.
Watching Dani perform is a treat. Editing is ridiculous. It really takes away from the ambience of his performance, which is different than just the reactions.
The real magic is the whole trick.
But again you can see the ambience, the whole trick and more - you'll just have to pay for it.
@RaceBlakhart So what, now they should start cutting out clips where the trick requires a double lift, or a mercury fold because magicians will know? Of course they shouldn't, and they shouldn't here as well. It's a 3 step trick. A different method is used to know the card of each spectator. The first 2 methods I already know how to do, but they left it out of the demo. I'm not going to buy a trick when I already recognize a move/method. So you think it's fair to mislead a magician into buying a trick, by cutting out part of the trick? If it is something done in front of the spectator in a live performance, it should be shown as part of the demo. The ad copy and demo present this trick as simply the spectator cutting the cards and then you know their card. This is not how the trick is actually performed.
"misleading that this was left out because most magicians would know this method"
So what's the alternative? Leaving it in and basically giving it away for free?
One other thing to note...the demo says a borrowed deck can be used. While this is technically true, it requires some setup. So I don’t see a borrowed deck as a realistic option.
Agree with initial poster that the second trick is great but video of routine has a misleading edit. The implication when watching it is that Dani doesn't manipulate the cards at all once the spectator names a position, but he does. This isn't "giving it away for free" it's being honest about the trick; it's very different when a magician touches the cards after a position is named vs not touching them after.
I think this may be why it's a bonus trick and not its own purchase. Still a great routine that spectators will enjoy.
Penguin can do what they want and so can the customer by not buying the effect.
@ DustinMarks1 "Penguin can do what they want"... Penguin did not have any say so in the video, that's all on Dani Da Ortiz. Each and every store gets the same video. Now if it was a Penguin Product, you could make your argument to a center extent. However, the trick's creator has the final say on what gets printed.
What I don't understand is the fact people are complaining over a trick that costs less than $10.
Cheers
