As a hobbyist, I'm always looking for the perfect trick I can carry in my wallet so I'm always
prepared to show something to anyone. For me, Color Monte is such a trick. It's easy to do, is
only 3 cards, and you end clean with everything examinable.
This trick is billed as an
Invisible Deck that fits in your wallet. And in some respects that's true. You just need to carry
a plain ungimmicked white envelope with a few cards in it. And yes, the spectator CAN name any card
(except the Aces, but you tell them that ahead of time.). And yes, you DO show them 5 cards with
only 1 card turned face up... and it has a different colored back!
However, in my mind,
this trick loses one star because nothing is examinable. Rick even implies that when he says "These
cards have more secrets than you can imagine." This is even less examinable than an Invisible Deck
because with an ID you can at least give the spectator the selected card.
This trick loses
a second star because the trailer is not completely honest. Rick says the card they name will be
the card turned face up. Well... that's not entirely true. (Think Kolossal Killer.)
Otherwise, this is a good trick and easy to do. It will take no practice and requires no memory
work. But I don't think it will replace Color Monte in my wallet.
