1. He first lifts up the
flap THAT FACES the spec.
When to me, the NATURAL first opening move is to start by lifting
the back flap. And...
2. He uses his thumb and 4th and PINKY fingers to do this first open
move. This looks awkward, as I see it.
In my view, it's an UNNATURAL way to open a piece of
paper. You can even see his lone spectator opening HIS folded piece of paper THIS way:
BACK FLAP
FIRST with his thumbs and FIRST fingers.
I have all of Julien's Penguin downloads. I love
them. But I don't believe my critique is nitpicking.
That move of opening the front flap
first -- with the thumb and pinky -- has always seemed unnatural.

Hey Andrew ! haha ! not prob, you're not being nitpicking at all ! I understand that it feels unnatural to you (and... maybe others?) but just to clarify : I've always unfolded paper this way (even before s*******g)... That's also why when looking for a natural way to s****h, I came up with this way of doing it ! ;)
I would recommend you have a look at a Barrie Richardson technique to do the unfolding s****h, it might suit you better AND will work fine with the structure/choreography of all my routines ! Feel free to message me for more infos !
